Security "concerns"

Security IS important for the school, and steps have been taken in the past, but there is a limit. The “sake of the children” program has it’s advantages, but based on when it started and under what light, it seems to be primarily a public relations move to show how much they are doing to combat abuse…while more and more lawsuits on priests continue to come to light.

Personally, I think the teachers AND parents feel better with more parents in and around
the school, especially if they have already been cleared. There are those we don't want in the school, and we need to keept them out, but please tell me when the last Catholic school was sued because a parent abused a kid in the classroom.

Bravo! It is an unfortunate fact that the response to the scandal has been driven by lawyers and insurance companies.
It is most often non-related people with authority and access to children who sexually abuse them. Closing the school to visitors is like pulling the shades around the children and the adults who are entrusted with their keeping.

There were well thought out safety suggestions given by a Safety Committee a few years ago, but they have been ignored.

I heard the school PTO tried to help out by fixing some things suggested in a safety plan from years ago.

PTO did help out with a few things, which was wonderful. But the "custodial" staff made promises of improvements that were never followed through on. Too busy selling snacks in the cafeteria and leaning on the trash cans I guess. When it was suggested that the plan needed to be reviewed and updated the administration did not act upon it - not priority.
